Meet the Team: Andrea Sadusky

Time again now to meet one of the newer members of the Raise the Bar team!

Andrea Sadusky joined Raise in early 2019 with an impressive education background and wonderful experience that matches perfectly with the goals of Raise the Bar and the people and families we work with. Much like all of the Raise team members, she is a dedicated learner, always motivated to further her knowledge and experience, as well as expand on the services she can provide. With a Bachelor of Psychology (with Honours) already under her belt, Andrea is now working towards a combined PhD/Masters of Educational and Developmental Psychology.

But what does that all mean? What kind of person is Andrea really? I'm glad you asked because I asked her too:

Background/Experience:

Before becoming a psychologist, I worked as an Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) therapist. In this role, I assisted young children (aged 2 to 6 years old) with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis build skills in communication, play, socialising, self-care, cognition and problem-solving, and any other skills that families felt were important for their children to learn. I highly enjoyed collaborating with families to develop strategies that were most meaningful and feasible for them, watching the child-clients grow in their skills and confidence, and needing to be creative in my therapeutic approach when tailoring intervention programs to suit the child-client’s interests and motivations.

Why did you choose this profession?

For as long as I can remember, I have always been curious about “Why do people…?” and found myself mesmerised by subjects like psychology and human biology. I loved how there was almost never a definite answer to these questions and that I always had more to learn about how and why people are both unique and similar. Also, I have always felt passionate about helping others to feel empowered in their lives – particularly individuals who might feel powerless or without “a voice”. So, when I married my personal drives together, a career in psychology has always felt like “the right” pathway for me – and it still does!

Professional quote/Personal motto:

I’m quite fond of Albert Einstein’s quote, “Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”

Favourite book: Anything and everything written by Haruki Murakami.

Favourite movie: The first movie that comes to mind is Amélie (directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet)

Favourite food: I scream for ice-cream!

Hobbies: Listening to music, exploring new places, watching movies and series, playing adventure/roleplaying/strategy board games, various craft activities (e.g., crocheting, painting, cake decorating, sewing).

What do you like about working with Raise the Bar:

Everything! I particularly love having the utmost supportive colleagues who similarly feel passionate about growing their skills and knowledge in the field. Working at RBP is a non-stop learning journey because of the friendly and devoted professionals I work alongside of, each with their unique background experiences, skills, knowledge, interests, and strengths. It is also highly rewarding that my work speaks directly to my core motivations and interests: to help others, to think deeply about the Why and How of people, and to be creative in developing person-tailored learning plans and recommendations. I feel so privileged to be a part of my clients’ journeys towards a better understanding of themselves.

So that's Andrea in a nut-shell, or at least in a brief internet based questionnaire format :)

Since coming on board with us earlier this year, Andrea has been an exceptional addition to the Raise the Bar team. She makes a fabulous addition to the family and we can't wait to see her exciting future unfold.
