Meet the Team: Alex Graham

Alex Graham has been part of the Raise the Bar team since March 2017, so her 1 year anniversary seems like as good a time as any to give everyone the chance to get to know her like we do.

Along with her impressive qualifications (a Bachelor of Psychological Science, a Graduate Diploma of Psychology, and a Masters in Educational & Developmental Psychology) she also has a wealth of experience working as a school psychologist at the Department of Education and Training. This role has allowed her to work across primary, secondary and special school settings, which combined with her experience in early intervention working with children with developmental disorders, as well as having worked as an autism therapist, makes her a wonderful fit for the work we do at Raise the Bar Psychology.

Having grown up as the child of two teachers, and often spending her days off school helping our her mum or dad in the classroom, Alex’s interest in working with children developed early. She actually considered being a teacher herself, but luckily for us decided that her strengths were more suited to working with students one-on-one rather than in a big group. And hence her future in educational psychology was born. The ability to work directly with students, as well as with their families and their schools is a natural fit for Alex.

“It means that you are able to get both parents and teachers on the same page to provide consistent support for the child’s learning. Helping children understand their strengths and challenges is extremely rewarding and I get joy from helping them understand themselves.”

Outside of her work Alex is another member of the Raise the Bar team who loves all things Harry Potter. For movies it’s strictly Mary Poppins and The Sounds of Music, and for snacks it’s Thai food and chocolate – as she says “What more do you need!”

Her downtime is filled with playing netball, going to the gym, supporting her beloved St Kilda each week, and spending time with her partner, family, friends and especially her pets Ollie the bunny and Hugo the puppy.

As for her time with Raise the Bar so far, Alex says it best:

“From the time I started at Raise the Bar, I very quickly felt at home. Everyone is extremely supportive and welcoming. There is lots of sharing of knowledge which helps our ultimate goal of helping our clients.”
